What We Do

Nonprofit Development Services

Most organizations that find this page have been looking for a development hire they cannot yet afford, or working through the problems in spreadsheets and borrowed frameworks. These engagements are built for that moment. A defined scope, named deliverables, and a clear timeline, all confirmed in writing before work begins.

KB Consulting works with nonprofits across Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

Core Engagements

Project engagements

Time-bound projects with a defined scope and written deliverables. Strategy without data infrastructure produces plans that cannot be executed. Data work without strategy produces clean reports no one acts on. These engagements integrate both. The Development Assessment is the recommended starting point for most organizations. It surfaces what you don't know you don't know.

Development Assessment

4-6 weeks

A four to six week diagnostic that produces a written assessment of your development infrastructure, a donor database audit, and tools that help you understand your donor portfolio and where to best focus your energy. You leave with a sequenced recommendation set that names what to build first and why. The entry point for organizations rebuilding from a baseline that does not exist, or for executive directors inheriting a program they did not build.

Development Strategy

6-12 weeks

The full planning engagement. Produces: annual fundraising calendar, gift table, major gifts strategy, non-government grant strategy and prospect framework (advisory only), case for support framework, donor journey map, stewardship matrix, and prospect prioritization list with cultivation notes.

Data Infrastructure

6-12 weeks

Implementation of donor data systems that work. CRM audit and configuration, data hygiene and migration, donor segmentation built inside the system rather than rebuilt in spreadsheets, reporting and dashboard architecture, and staff training. Primary platform fluency in Neon CRM and Salesforce, adaptable to other systems. Appropriate for organizations transitioning between platforms, recovering from a stalled implementation, or operating a system that produces reports staff cannot trust.

You need the plan before the hire makes sense.

Most organizations engaging KB Consulting are not ready for a full-time development director. The budget is not there, or the role would arrive before the infrastructure exists to support it. The Development Assessment is built for that moment. It tells you where you are, what to build, and in what order. Before you know what to hire for, you need to know what you need.

Add-On Engagements

Focused add-ons

Standalone or companion engagements that address a specific gap. Can run independently or alongside a project engagement.

Board Activation

Scoped per engagement

Board engagement assessment, resource development committee formation support, board giving framework, role clarity in fundraising (cultivation vs. stewardship vs. solicitation), and a facilitated board session. For boards that want to support fundraising but do not know how, and for executive directors who have watched peer organizations burn board members out by asking them to close gifts.

Campaign Development

Scoped per engagement

Pre-campaign advisory scoped around campaign readiness and architecture, not campaign management or execution. Produces: pre-campaign feasibility assessment, case for support, campaign narrative, gift table, ask sequencing plan, and major donor prospect identification and prioritization. Campaign execution is scoped separately.

Fundraising Event Support

Scoped per engagement

Strategic advisory and coordination for organizations planning a fundraising event. Scope is defined per engagement based on where the most help is needed. Coverage can include event strategy and planning framework, event story framework (the narrative arc told before, during, and after the event), committee coordination, sponsorship strategy and prospect development, vendor coordination, and a post-event engagement plan. The post-event engagement piece is where most organizations lose the donors they acquire at the event, which is where this engagement does its highest-value work.

Entry Points

Discrete project work

Not every question needs a full engagement. These are scoped to a single, specific problem.

Focused Strategic Memo

Scoped per engagement

A written analysis of a specific, bounded question: a funding decision, a donor situation, a board structure problem. Scoped to a single issue. Delivered as a written memo with findings and recommendations.

Working Document

Scoped per engagement

A single scoped deliverable outside a full engagement: a case for support, a stewardship matrix, a gift table, a CRM audit, or a comparable standalone document. Price reflects scope and complexity.

Donor-Facing Narrative

Storytelling runs through every engagement.

Data tells you who to ask and for how much. Storytelling is how the ask lands. The case for support, donor journey maps, campaign narratives, and event story frameworks are built into the engagements where they belong, not priced separately.

Know what's in scope before we start.

Every engagement begins with a written Scope of Services: named deliverables, timeline, and a confirmed fee. Nothing starts until you have it in writing.
